NZ Party Party Constitution

A grassroots movement advocating for community-driven governance, aligned with infinitism as an ideology.

1. Name & Legal Status

  • The official name is NZ Party Party (referred to as “the Party”).

  • The Party is registered as a political organization under New Zealand law and operates in compliance with the Electoral Act.

  • The Party is a grassroots movement advocating for community-driven governance, rejecting top-down control in favor of decentralized, participatory decision-making.

  • The Party aligns with infinitism, embracing the continuous pursuit of knowledge, exploration, and growth, rejecting static ideological frameworks in favor of iterative improvement and adaptability.

2. Purpose & Objectives

The Party exists to:

  • Increase political engagement among young and underrepresented voters.

  • Make politics more accessible, transparent, and engaging for all New Zealanders.

  • Foster open discussion, civic education, and community participation in governance.

  • Empower local decision-making and direct democracy to reduce bureaucratic inefficiency.

  • Encourage creative, grassroots solutions to social and political challenges.

  • Challenge corruption, corporate influence, and outdated governance models that serve the elite over the people.

  • Prioritize well-being, sustainability, and long-term thinking in political decision-making.

  • Emphasize public participation through innovative engagement methods such as online voting, citizen assemblies, and participatory budgeting.

  • Bridge gaps between policy and real-world impact, ensuring governance reflects the needs and aspirations of the people.

3. Party Membership

3.1 Eligibility

  • Open to any New Zealand citizen or permanent resident aged 18+ who is eligible to vote.

  • Members must support the Party’s mission and core principles.

  • Members are encouraged to actively participate in discussions, initiatives, and decision-making processes.

3.2 Membership Fees & Funding

  • A nominal membership fee is required to comply with the Electoral Act.

  • Funds shall be used solely for party administration, outreach, and election participation.

  • The Party may also receive donations and sponsorships, provided they align with ethical, transparent, and community-based funding principles.

  • Donations above $5,000 will be publicly disclosed in accordance with electoral law.

3.3 Membership Code of Conduct

Members are expected to:

  • Engage respectfully and constructively in Party activities.

  • Uphold the Party’s values, policies, and mission.

  • Encourage open discourse and dissenting views while avoiding toxic behavior.

  • Act in a manner that upholds the Party’s integrity and public trust.

3.4 Membership Termination

A member may be removed if they:

  1. Violate the Party’s Code of Conduct.

  2. Engage in illegal, unethical, or deceptive behavior that damages the Party.

  3. Actively work against the Party’s mission or attempt to subvert its democratic processes.

Process:

  • Complaints shall be reviewed by the Executive Committee.

  • The accused member shall be given the right to respond and defend themselves.

  • A majority vote will determine removal.

  • The member may appeal within 14 days, during which an independent review will be conducted.

4. Party Structure & Leadership

4.1 Executive Committee

The Executive Committee is the Party’s governing body, responsible for key decisions.
It consists of:

  • Party Leader (elected every 2 years)

  • Deputy Leader

  • Party Secretary

  • Treasurer (oversees finances)

  • Grassroots Coordinators (regional representatives)

  • Up to 5 additional elected members

4.2 Party Leader

  • The Party Leader represents the Party publicly, leads election campaigns, and sets strategic direction.

  • The Leader is elected by a majority vote of the Executive Committee every 2 years.

  • The Leader must engage with the membership base and adhere to term limits to prevent stagnation.

  • If the Leader resigns or is removed, the Deputy Leader serves as interim leader until a new election is held within 60 days.

4.3 Financial Management

  • The Treasurer oversees all finances and ensures transparency and accountability.

  • An annual financial report will be made available to all members.

  • Party spending shall prioritize community initiatives, outreach, and public education.

  • Any corporate donations must align with the Party’s ethical principles and be publicly disclosed.

5. Decision-Making & Policy Development

  • The Party values open, participatory decision-making and community-driven governance.

  • Policy proposals may be submitted by any member and will be reviewed through open forums and debates.

  • The Executive Committee shall approve or reject proposals, with major policies requiring a full membership vote.

  • Annual General Meetings (AGMs) will be held for members to review policies, governance, and strategy.

6. Public Engagement & Innovation

  • The Party will use online platforms, citizen assemblies, and community events to foster public participation.

  • Grassroots initiatives will be supported, ensuring local communities have a say in governance.

  • The Party embraces infinitism, recognizing that no policy is perfect and all ideas must evolve with new information and changing circumstances.

  • Real-world testing of policies through pilot programs and citizen-led initiatives will be encouraged.

7. Absurdist & Satirical Elements

While the Party is serious about governance, we recognize that absurdity and humor are vital to breaking through political apathy. As such:

  • The Party shall maintain a satirical approach to exposing government inefficiencies, utilizing performance art, satire, and creative activism.

  • A ceremonial role of “Government Jester” shall exist to challenge hypocrisy and bureaucracy through humor.

  • Members are encouraged to propose and execute political stunts that highlight real issues in entertaining, thought-provoking ways.

  • Absurdist policies shall be trialed and voted on, ensuring the Party remains a movement that challenges traditional political norms.

8. Party Dissolution & Legacy

  • Should the Party cease operations, any remaining funds shall be donated to grassroots political education initiatives or community projects.

  • The Party’s digital platforms and educational resources shall remain available as an open-source archive for future activists and movements.
